Juneteenth and where we are today

Juneteenth is an important African American festival when communities gather to commemorate the injustices Black Americans faced before abolition while celebrating their rich traditions and successes since. It’s also a time for activists to raise awareness of the injustices that continue to harm African American communities today and ways people may work together to bring about change beyond a recognized holiday.
