Real Talk: Illuminating the Path for Black Students

At this year’s A Dream DeferredTM: The Future of African American Education 2024 conference, one of the highlights was “Real Talk: Illuminating the Path for Black Students,” a panel discussion led by the charismatic director and host Dr. Autumn Caviness along with associate vice provost Sandra Williams-Hamp from outreach and educational partnerships at the University of California System, and Joseph Montgomery, associate vice provost for enrollment management at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University. They discuss what Real Talk is—namely, a virtual event series that is dedicated to providing Black students with essential resources and guidance on their educational journeys. The panel delved into what Real Talk is all about, emphasizing its role as a platform for honest conversation, mentorship, and actionable advice. By featuring a range of voices and experience, Real Talk aims to empower students, addressing their unique challenges and celebrating their success within the academic landscape.
